Newborn Colour Themes Perfect for Your Photography Session | Baby Photography Hull

Introduction

If you’re looking for expert baby photography in Hull, you’ll love the soft, timeless look of my coloured backdrop sessions here at Bluebell and Lace Photography. I specialise in creating beautifully simple newborn portraits using plain, coloured backgrounds that keep the focus exactly where it should be — on your precious baby.

One of the most exciting parts of your session is choosing the perfect colour theme. The right tones can enhance your baby’s features, reflect your style, and give your gallery that polished, professional feel. In this post, I’ll walk you through some of the most popular and beautiful newborn colour themes to help inspire your session and make the experience as relaxed and personal as possible.

Why Colour Choice Matters in Baby Photography in Hull

When you book your baby photography in Hull with me, you’ll have access to a full collection of carefully curated props and accessories that coordinate beautifully with my coloured backdrops. From wraps and headbands to bonnets, felted teddies, wool hearts, stuffers, bowls, and buckets — every item in my studio is chosen to complement each other and create a cohesive, styled look.

Colour isn’t just about aesthetics — it creates the mood, highlights your baby’s skin tones, and helps your images tell a story. Whether you're dreaming of something soft and serene, bold and dramatic, or earthy and warm, I’ll help you select the colours that suit your baby and your vision best.

Popular Colour Themes for Newborn Sessions

Here are some of my most requested (and loved!) colour themes:

Soft Neutrals – Cream, Beige, Ivory, Taupe

These classic tones are timeless and calming. They’re perfect if you love a minimal, natural look and want your baby to be the main focus.

Pretty Pastels – Blush, Lavender, Mint, Powder Blue

Pastels are delicate and dreamy — ideal for spring babies or those wanting a soft, romantic gallery. They pair beautifully with floral headbands, lace textures, and gentle wraps.

Earthy Naturals – Terracotta, Mustard, Olive, Rust

These rich, warm tones feel both modern and grounded. I love using earthy colours with wooden props and wool textures to create a beautifully rustic style.

Jewel Tones – Deep Plum, Emerald, Navy, Burgundy

If you’re looking for something a little more dramatic, jewel tones are stunning. They’re rich, luxurious, and make your baby’s features truly stand out. These colours give your images a unique and bold look that still feels timeless.

Each of these themes is fully customisable — I’ll style your entire session around your chosen palette to create a gallery that flows seamlessly from one image to the next.

How to Choose the Right Colour for Your Session

Not sure where to start? That’s what I’m here for!

When you arrive at the studio, we’ll take a few moments to look through the colour options together. I’ll help guide you through the decision based on your preferences, your baby’s features, and the overall feel you’d love for your images. While you feed and settle your baby, I’ll get everything set up and styled around the theme we’ve chosen.

From the backdrops to the wraps, bonnets, and props — everything will coordinate to ensure your gallery has a consistent and polished look. It’s this attention to detail that helps your photos feel like a complete story, not just a collection of individual images.

What to Expect at Baby Photography in Hull

Once your baby is settled and the styling is in place, we’ll move gently through the session at your baby’s pace. I keep the studio warm, calm, and cosy — it’s a space where you can relax and know that your little one is in caring hands.

Every pose and setup is designed with your chosen colour theme in mind. I use soft textures, matching props, and baby-safe posing techniques to make sure your images are both beautiful and safe. Whether we're using bowls, buckets, wraps, or little felted teddies, it all ties together to tell a cohesive visual story.

You don’t need to worry about a thing — just sit back, enjoy the quiet moments, and let me take care of the rest.

Book Your Newborn Session Today!

If you’re expecting and would love to create timeless portraits of your newborn, I’d recommend booking your session while you’re still pregnant — ideally during your second or early third trimester. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month to allow flexibility around your due date, so booking early guarantees your spot.

We’ll pencil in your due date, then confirm the actual session once baby arrives. This way, everything runs smoothly and you don’t miss out on those tiny, sleepy newborn days — the best time to photograph your baby is between 7 and 21 days old.

If your baby has already arrived, don’t worry — get in touch and I’ll do my very best to fit you in.

To check availability or ask any questions, just head over to my contact page. I’d love to hear from you.

If you're looking for personal, thoughtful baby photography in Hull, I’d be honoured to welcome you to my studio and help you capture these fleeting early moments with heart and style.
